Through a bevy of flow bench testing, it was quickly determined that the biggest hindrance to improved flow on the stock intake was the factory snorkel. Unfortunately, the snorkel was also the piece that would cause the largest increase in cost to a potential kit. As a result, it was quickly abandoned as a potential area of improvement. Instead, attention was turned to finding a way to introduce a secondary inlet for additional airflow. With limited room to work with, traditional secondary ducting was not possible. This, in turn, led to multiple experiments being conducted on the effectiveness of a possible open-air inlet on the upper lid. With different shapes, locations, and sizes of openings being tested, the goal was to ensure that the added secondary inlet did not cause any unwarranted side effects such as an increase in air temps in the system. This is commonplace with open-air intake systems where lots of overheated engine bay air is utilized in the intake tract. The results of these tests showed that a 12 square-inch opening for additional air on the opposite side of the upper lid from the engine provided a perfect balance of additional volume to assist the factory snorkel all the while not causing an increase in turbo inlet temperatures. This was the case regardless of testing conditions (single/multiple gear pulls, constant speed, 0-100mph runs, etc.).

DINAN FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DO I CONFIRM A DINAN PART FITS MY VEHICLE?
Start with the year, make and model selector, then confirm the chassis code, engine, drivetrain and any application notes on the product page. BMW and MINI models from the same year can use different engines or hardware. If anything is unclear, contact FI Performance with your VIN and the Dinan part number before ordering.
DO CHASSIS CODE, ENGINE AND FACTORY OPTIONS MATTER?
Yes. Dinan fitment can depend on chassis generation, engine code, production date, transmission, rear- or all-wheel drive, factory suspension, brake package and other equipment. A model name alone is not always enough to establish fitment.
DO DINAN INTAKES AND AIRFLOW PARTS REQUIRE TUNING?
Many Dinan intake and airflow upgrades operate safely without additional software, while some applications achieve their advertised results only when paired with compatible tuning or supporting hardware. Follow the requirements listed for the exact part number and vehicle application.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM A DINAN EXHAUST?
Dinan exhaust systems are designed to add a deeper, more purposeful tone while maintaining refined street manners. Sound level, cold-start volume and cabin presence vary by vehicle, exhaust section, drive mode and other installed components. Review the exact product description before ordering if sound level is a primary concern.
WILL DINAN SUSPENSION OR CHASSIS PARTS CHANGE RIDE QUALITY?
They can. Springs, dampers, sway bars, braces and related chassis parts may produce a firmer or more controlled ride depending on the combination and settings used. A professional alignment is recommended after installing components that alter ride height or suspension geometry.
WHAT IS REQUIRED AFTER INSTALLING DINAN BRAKE PARTS?
Brake components must be installed to the vehicle and product specifications. New pads and rotors should receive the correct bedding procedure, and the system should be inspected for proper operation before normal driving. Brake work should be completed by a qualified technician if you do not have the required tools and experience.
DO DINAN ENGINE AND TUNING PRODUCTS REQUIRE SPECIAL INSTALLATION?
Requirements vary. Some inline modules are designed for straightforward sensor connections, while software, turbochargers and other advanced engine upgrades may require special tools, programming, supporting modifications or professional installation. Use Dinan's instructions for the exact part number and do not substitute instructions from another application.
HOW DO I CHOOSE THE CORRECT WHEELS, SPACERS AND HARDWARE?
Confirm wheel diameter, width, offset, center bore, brake clearance and tire fitment for the vehicle. Spacers must use the correct bolt pattern, hub fitment and matching extended hardware where required. Never stack wheel spacers, and always follow the specified torque procedure and recheck schedule.
HOW ARE DINAN EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR PARTS INSTALLED?
Installation ranges from direct replacement to adhesive bonding, trimming or removal of factory panels. Dry-fit cosmetic parts before final installation and follow the supplied surface-preparation and curing instructions. Professional installation is recommended for carbon-fiber pieces or any part requiring permanent modification.
ARE DINAN DRIVETRAIN AND SHIFTING UPGRADES STREET FRIENDLY?
Dinan designs many drivetrain and shifting upgrades to improve response and driver engagement without sacrificing everyday usability. Increased shift effort, vibration or mechanical feedback can still occur depending on the part and vehicle. Check the product notes for the expected change before purchase.
ARE ALL DINAN PERFORMANCE PARTS EMISSIONS LEGAL?
No. Emissions status is part- and application-specific. Some products are 50-state legal, some are not legal for sale or use in California, and others may be intended only for competition vehicles. Review the emissions statement and any CARB Executive Order listed for the exact part and vehicle before ordering or installing it.
WHO SHOULD INSTALL DINAN PERFORMANCE PARTS?
Installation difficulty varies by category and application. Always review Dinan's part-number-specific instructions first. Safety-critical, software, engine, suspension, brake and permanently bonded components should be handled by a qualified performance shop when the procedure exceeds your tools or experience.
WHAT WARRANTY APPLIES TO DINAN PRODUCTS?
Warranty coverage varies by product, vehicle and installation. Dinan states that its performance products generally carry a two-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, while certain qualifying products or applications may have different or factory-matching coverage. Warranty does not cover problems caused by improper installation, misuse, misapplication, modification or neglect. Review the current Dinan warranty terms for the exact product before purchase.
