A&A SUPERCHARGER SYSTEM FOR C5 CORVETTE 

This is where it all started for A&A back in the 1990s. 
 
C5 continues to be a great platform for supercharging due to the affordability and number of vehicles available. While some manufacturers have stopped supporting C5,thgeynot only support, but continue to improve existing parts and design new ones. C5 is, and will continue to be, a great hotrod platform for some time. 

A&A’s C5 supercharger systems have benefited from all the innovations implemented in our C6 and C7 research and development. Each time they found a way to improve the C6 and C7 systems, they went back to C5 and did the same. The other guys just sat back and said “Our C5 systems are good enough” and have not updated their C5 systems in years. 

As with C6 and C7 they offer 50 State Legal (CARB EO# D-707) systems all the way up to 1000 RWHP race only kits.

C5 is a “Bottom Breather”. Incoming airflow is drawn in from under the car, rather than through a large grille opening as in later models. This requires a different approach as to how to get adequate airflow through the intercooler.

Just putting an intercooler in front of the radiator does little more than block the radiator. The factory shroud (that large plastic piece that slopes down from the top of the radiator to the front bumper) is gone, so what is there to force the air through the intercooler and radiator? Furthermore, with that shroud gone, what is there to stop the airflow from just going off into the fender wells on either side of the radiator as well as up into the bumper itself? The straight answer is NOTHING! 
 
A&A is the ONLY system that looks at this problem and actually does something about it. They have CNC formed aluminum panels that seal this whole area off so the airflow is trapped in the radiator cavity and forced into the radiator. This approach helps engine cooling tremendously. 

RADIATOR SURROUND PANELS KEEP AIRFLOW WHERE IT BELONGS 

The full width intercooler is sealed tightly against the front panel and has its own “scoop” to grab the airflow and force it through the intercooler itself. Again, A&A is the ONLY manufacturer to do this or, for that matter, anything at all to enhance airflow through the intercooler.

THE BELT TENSIONER IS ANOTHER AREA WHERE A&A IS KING. Each tensioner is machined from 9.6 pounds of 6061 Aluminum bar. The shaft is precision machined 4340 Chromoly steel. The tensioner rotates on German manufactured bearings that are precision fit much like an engine bearing. The bores are set for a certain amount of “crush” so that the shaft to bearing clearance is within the range specified by the bearing manufacturer. Each one is hand assembled at our facility and checked for proper spring tension with a digital torque meter. NOBODY else does that but A&A! 

NOW THAT’S A TENSIONER! 9.6 # OF ALUMINUM BILLET BEFORE MACHINING! 


That’s the quality side of the tensioner assembly. On the practical side, they have 3 internal spring settings. A 1000 HP drag racer obviously needs more spring pressure than a 600 HP daily driver, right? This can be accomplished with just one tensioner! We even have an optional spring for super high horsepower drag racers. There is also a “lock pin” so the tensioner can be rotated to the slack position and locked in place. This is a huge help when installing a belt, changing an alternator etc. Fighting the spring tensioner is a thing of the past. 
 
No other manufacturer has a tensioner that is even close to theirs in both quality and practicality. 

THE MOUNTING BRACKET ASSEMBLY IS ALSO STATE OF THE ART.  Each plate is machined on both sides to assure absolute flatness and accuracy. Super strong bracing, Grade 8 hardware, all steel pulleys with dual bearings, stainless or aluminumstantionsfor proper bearing support and our billet tensioner are all standard. The brackets are also set up to use 6 or 8 rib drive pulleys without modification, right out of the box.

SUPERIOR PLUMBING IS ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT OF THE A&A SYSTEM. 

Look how the plumbing is routed through the engine compartment. To get from the supercharger outlet to the intercooler you must go behind the sway bar, over to the right side of the radiator, and then up and over the front part of the skid bar assembly. Others use 90-degree rubber hoses connected with aluminum tubes. Their rubber hoses need to be contorted to make the odd angles needed. Not A&A. The silicone hoses are manufactured with the correct bends to get from the supercharger to intercooler without twisting or kinking. They are also extremely strong and oil resistant. 

Look at the picture below. Do you see any 90-degree bends? 

A&A also uses stainless “Constant Tension” clamps on our charge tubing. These clamps expand and contract to keep the connections tight at all temperatures as well as provide 360 degree clamping force.

A&A OFFERS THE LARGEST INTAKE DUCT in a standard system. They designed it to clear the stock and most aftermarket radiators while maximizing airflow. There is 4 ½” on the supercharger end with appropriately sized silicone couplers for the different head units available. The oversized end allows us to have a much largercross sectionalarea at the pinch point where it crosses over the radiator. This area is about 35% larger than other designs.

NEW RADIATOR HOLD DOWN BRACKETS:  Manufacture laser cut, CNC bent brackets to securely hold the radiator, fan and AC condenser assembly in place. These brackets, in conjunction with the top shroud and mounting brackets make for a very stable and professional looking installation.

A&A uses Vortech head units in all of their systems. Vortech builds the head units to their specifications under a private label agreement. We offer head units of varying sizes to accommodate different horsepower levels.  

The Si Trim head unit is best suited for stock engines and is the only one available in our C.A.R.B. Certified kits. (available in engine oil fed or self-contained) 

The TiTrim is better suited for those with headers, moderate camshafts, Methanol injection etc. and is a NO COST OPTION. (available in engine oil fed or self-contained)

East Coast Supercharging Paxton NOVI 1500 (ECS C5 Novi 1500)

East Coast Supercharging 1997-2004 5.7 Liter C5 Corvette Supercharger Systems 

With the ECS C5 Supercharger System, you get a system designed to work with your factory cooling system, and retains provision for factory, orafter marketoil coolers. Including things that greatly add to reliability, such asheavy dutybelt tensioners and steel double bearing idlers, as well as stainless steel hardware, high quality silicone hoses and high grade, stainless steel t-bolt clamps. All things, that are more often than not, considered upgrades on some other systems. 

Belt System 

When you install a SC System on your C5, you dramatically increase the load on the vehicles belt system. That’s why they start their C5 system by addressing one of the most critical aspects of a centrifugal supercharging system – not addressed by some other SC manufacturers. Including a super strong, custom belt tensioner designed, specifically, to handle the increased belt load by providing zinc coated steel, double walled ball bearing idlers to replace the factory plastic idlers that are expected to handle the belt load in lesser systems. 

Strong and Functional Brackets 

ECS uses a proprietary bracket system that provides the most belt wrap possible, while still being user friendly enough to enable easy and fast belt changes when necessary. The ECS brackets are made in house from 3/4 in billet aluminum and include steel idlers along with a stout slide idler, allowing maximum belt wrap and traction. 

The Highest Efficiency Intercooler 

The C5 Corvette is a “front breather”. Meaning all the air that cools your radiator and AC condenser passes through the nose of the car. That’s why ECS started from scratch when designing our intercooler. The large 17 x 3.5 x 8 in core has proven to support more than 1000 hp, and still provides adequate airflow across the front of the car to allow your AC and cooling systems to keep the car operating as it should, without the added cost of a larger radiator and fans. With the ECS intercooler you won’t need to scoop additional air from the bottom of the car in the attempt to manage heat. Doing this only causes lift on the nose of the car and disturbs the air flow as it was designed in the C5. The Intercooler features a3 inchinlet and a 4 inch outlet to maximize cooling and airflow that so critical to your supercharged Corvette. 

Top Rate Materials 

Stainless steel hardware, brand new flow matched injectors, zinc coated steel idlers, 6061 aluminum ducting, stainless steel t-bolt hose clamps, high quality 4 ply silicone hoses, lifetime air filters…. Other kits in the market will use modified stock injectors, plastic idlers, factory belt tensioners, steel ducting, and lesser quality materials, then give you options that are available to cure a known issue or present revision after revision to try and offset shortcomings in design. At ECS we do our best to do it right the first time. Not offer revision after revision in an attempt resolve known shortcomings in design. 

Head Unit Options 

The Paxton Novi 1500 has been the core of our C5 system for a number of years. This head unit features aself containedoiling system, and super quiet operation making it the top option for most customers. While many customers choose the ECS Supercharging System for its unmatched features and reliability, others choose the ECS Package because it presents far more growth potential that any other supercharging system for the Corvette. Almost any system can deliver 500rwhpon a factory LS1/LS6, but how many of them can exceed 700rwhp? ECS can. 

Possibly the best feature of the Novi 1500, is the scalable power it provides. It will provide 500-600 rear wheel horsepower on otherwise stock C5’s, but when uncorked, it can provide enough boost to generate more than 800 rear wheel horsepower on a properly set up engine. Other manufacturers start off with less expensive, and smaller head units that don’t present nearly the power output of the Novi 1500 leaving you in a situation that when you want more power, you will need to purchase a completely new head unit ($3000+) or a blower cam package ($2500+) to come close to the power the base ECS kit provides.

A&A Corvette Secondary Belt Drive System (AA C5/6 2nd Belt)

The A&A Secondary Drive is unique in that it does NOT drive the accessories via the air conditioning belt like other systems. The accessory drive shaft pulley is driven by its own dedicated belt. This allows full belt wrap around the crankshaft pulley as well as the accessory drive shaft pulley and the ability to tension this belt separately. This eliminates accessory belt slip that plagues other systems. The system also utilizes a spring tensioner on the alternator/power steering belt which allows proper belt wrap and tension.

Design testing showed the torque needed to slip the accessory drive shaft belt was nearly TRIPLE that of other designs. This eliminates voltage loss at high RPM from slipping, as well as belt squeal in slow corners with the A/C on.

This kit INCLUDES our PROPRIETARY 8 RIB SFI approved 10% OVERDRIVE BALANCER, all belts, hoses, pulleys and tensioners needed.  (Will NOT work with stock, or standard Innovators West or ATI balancer)

Using the Secondary Drive allows the use of a much shorter belt to drive the supercharger which eliminates stretch and belt whip. This is the ultimate belt drive system for street driven C5 and C6 Corvettes as well as dedicated race cars with or without A/C.

A&A Corvette 52MM “BIG BUBBA” BLOWOFF VALVE (AA 52mm BBubba)

The 52MM Big Bubba looks like the standard 38MM valve on steroids. The huge bore allows the piston to react to boost and vacuum changes much more quickly as well as increasing the airflow capacity exponentially.

SUPERIOR PLUMBING IS ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT OF THE A&A SYSTEM. 

Look how the plumbing is routed through the engine compartment. To get from the supercharger outlet to the intercooler you must go behind the sway bar, over to the right side of the radiator, and then up and over the front part of the skid bar assembly. Others use 90-degree rubber hoses connected with aluminum tubes. Their rubber hoses need to be contorted to make the odd angles needed. Not A&A. The silicone hoses are manufactured with the correct bends to get from the supercharger to intercooler without twisting or kinking. They are also extremely strong and oil resistant. 

Look at the picture below. Do you see any 90-degree bends? 

A&A also uses stainless “Constant Tension” clamps on our charge tubing. These clamps expand and contract to keep the connections tight at all temperatures as well as provide 360 degree clamping force.

A&A OFFERS THE LARGEST INTAKE DUCT in a standard system. They designed it to clear the stock and most aftermarket radiators while maximizing airflow. There is 4 ½” on the supercharger end with appropriately sized silicone couplers for the different head units available. The oversized end allows us to have a much largercross sectionalarea at the pinch point where it crosses over the radiator. This area is about 35% larger than other designs.

NEW RADIATOR HOLD DOWN BRACKETS:  Manufacture laser cut, CNC bent brackets to securely hold the radiator, fan and AC condenser assembly in place. These brackets, in conjunction with the top shroud and mounting brackets make for a very stable and professional looking installation.

The Si Trim head unit is best suited for stock engines and is the only one available in our C.A.R.B. Certified kits. (available in engine oil fed or self-contained) 

The TiTrim is better suited for those with headers, moderate camshafts, Methanol injection etc. and is a NO COST OPTION. (available in engine oil fed or self-contained)
